STORY
Surrendered as an infant to a Carmelite order convent (non-cloistered) in a remote, impoverished Eastern European village. She received her foundational education here, along with instruction in English. Was brought to Wammy's House in England at the age of 10.

"Good End" Fate (indulgent canon x oc slop):
Remains in England post-Wammy's. She becomes staunchly, vocally anti-Kira and religiously follows all L-centric news both in mainstream channels and online (knowing that Near is the one in this role now). Following the events of the C-Kira story, she becomes interested in trying to re-establish contact with him despite the earlier rejection. Ophelia mounts an effort to locate him using her good standing with Wammy's House and begins sending letters occasionally. She is surprised when he starts responding. They communicate in this manner for a while before calling over a secure line and entering into something like a long-distance relationship. Eventually meet in person again some time in 2015. Are in a committed relationship by the time of the A-Kira story.

"Bad End" Fate (canon-compliant and more probable ending):
Romantically rejected by Near shortly before the announcement of L's death. Left behind when Mello leaves Wammy's House, remains at the orphanage until adulthood. Reconnects with Mello some years after his departure. Lives with him for a period of about six months and becomes involved with his criminal ventures, often as bait, distraction or information extraction. Plays a pivotal role in Mello's scheme to assassinate the rival mafia boss and earn his place as Rod Ross' second-hand. Begins having second thoughts, told she's not really needed anymore anyway. Leaves despondent. Is out of the picture by the time the events of the second arc of the manga/anime begin. Comes to learn of Mello and Matt's deaths eventually. Feels tainted by the things Mello involved her in, guilty about her role, has nowhere to go and nobody to return to. Falls to despair and commits suicide in a river, fulfilling her namesake.
PERSONALITY
(Wammy's Era - teen years) A dutiful, obsequious girl who is much more mature and serious than her peers. She speaks with a formal, flowery affect that sounds slightly unnatural and out-of-time, closer to an eighteenth century author than a teenager in the early 2000's (likely a byproduct of how she learned English by tuition from nuns and from old texts with archaic prose). Highly agreeable and diplomatic, she is able to befriend almost anyone and has a wealth of both male and female friends. Individuals readily confide their deepest secrets and pasts, perhaps owing to her adult-like manner and non-judgemental nature. Beneath the controlled facade is an intense person with strong desires, many at odds with her religious upbringing. Named herself after the Hamlet character.

(Post-Wammy's - adult years) A disillusioned, bitter woman who feels deprived of warmth and affection. Craves intimacy with others after a childhood spent in an ascetic convent, then in a boarding-school style institution. The highly structured life she'd grown accustomed to vanished as she aged out of the system and became an adult. Has never once felt the touch of God despite her lifelong devotion, yearns to feel it. Drinks too much alcohol.

Strengths: Eloquent, speaks two languages with a high degree of mastery. A life spent in a religious order has produced an individual who is very disciplined and orderly. High social skills.

Weaknesses: Strong in arts and humanities, weak in STEM subjects. Melancholic, prone to bouts of misery. Lacks self-worth and direction. Asks for nothing, gets nothing.
TRIVIA
- Series/setting: Death Note
- Age is ill-defined as she appears at different ages at different times. She's approximately 15~16 when she's at Wammy's House with Mello and Near, and in her 20s post-Kira case.
- Country of origin is also intentionally vague in order to avoid making statements about Mello's nationality (as they come from the "same place") - only disclosed as "Eastern European".
- Ophelia is 5'4" tall - visually shorter than Mello, but taller than Near.
- Habitually stands/walks straight with her hands folded in front of her, especially as a child/teen. Was taught to carry herself like this.
